An evening spent with award winning playwright Anna Jordan, following a scripts development from an initial spark, through to the first draft and on to a final piece, seen for the first time as part of the festival.

A chance to chat with the writer and see the process through her eyes as well as having a chance to feed in your thoughts and opinions via the cast and director.

Recent work includes FREAK (Assembly Festival, Edinburgh, Theatre503) which was excellently received with six five star reviews and ten four star reviews and sold out in both London and Edinburgh. Chicken Shop was also critically acclaimed at Park Theatre in September 2014 with three five star reviews and eight four star reviews).

Anna is thrilled to have won the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2013 with her play YEN.

Anna started writing plays in 2006. Her first play was No Reason at All, Except I Have Toothache, which she directed at LAMDA’s black box studio. Marianne was developed on the Royal Court Playwriting Course and went on to have a rehearsed reading at Trafalgar Studios and a sell out run produced by Without a Paddle at Wimbledon Studio Theatre. It was also on the longlist for the Bruntwood Playwriting Prize. Just For Fun – Totally Random won Best New Writing at the Lost One Act Festival and was described by judge and The Times theatre critic Jeremy Kingston as “A helter-skelter account of the last evening in the life of a street gang which grips the attention and never lets it go”.

Closer To God won Best Play and Audience Award in the inaugural Off Cut Festival and went on to be top download on the Bush Theatre’s Bush Green Website, described by then associate director Anthea Williams as “A beautiful rhythmical piece that finds connections between the most unlikely of neighbours”.

Other plays include BENDER (Old Red Lion / Waterloo East Theatre), Fragments(Riverside Studios), ShortStuff (Waterloo East Theatre), We Will Be Gone (Camden People’s Theatre). Anna’s play Chicken Shop was one of the final ten plays in the Verity Bargate Award at Soho Theatre in 2011. Short plays include Coming Home, Bed of Foxgloves, That Dark Place (Theatre503) and Staunch (Arcola Theatre, The Miniaturists). Anna is represented by Georgina Ruffhead at David Higham Associates.
